3.4.4 Task frames (following pair)This corresponds to the leading team’s similarly named category. Just as in that category, ‘task frames’ includes questions and statements which are characterized by their general applicability and relevance to tutoring.
Exploratory and procedural questions (EXPROCF) for example, “Then hw” and “Wat is nex” Exploratory questions are straightforward, open-ended, questions, which are asked without any attempt at further qualification or focus. Procedural questions have an implicit sense of sequence – they seek to determine the subsequent step. In the examples above, they are, respectively, “what shall we do now?” and “what is next?”
Statements or questions seeking to either verify or report attainment (ATTAINF) for example, “Gt houses hor”, “So just now at e traffic light we turn left or rite. We turn rite lehz.”, “I see the road already. It is goes of the mrt station.”, “Reach le”, “Hav le. Found p” and “We r at hse no.26. ,jln rumia rd” These represent the following teams’ attempts to determine whether they have successfully found the checkpoints, or more generally, to report their position to the leading team. In the examples above, they are, respectively, “there are houses?”, “so just now at the traffic light, should we have turned left or right? We turned right, you see”, “I see the road already. It is beside the Mass Rapid Transit station”, “we have reached it”, “we have. We’ve found ‘P’” and “we are at house number 26, Jalan Rumia road”.
Questions seeking elaboration (QSEF) for example, “Where is e lane” These are distinct from exploratory questions in that they are asked with reference to preceding comments made by the leading team. In other words, such questions are clarifying in their purpose. The example above is, “where is the lane?”
Questions seeking purpose (PURPOSEF) for example, “Go to block 14 for wat” These questions were not strictly relevant to the task, in the sense that they represented challenges of authority to the leading team. The example above is, “why should we go to block 14?”
